Hi there
Keeping your weight down is key factor, as overweight women struggle with ovulation. Similarly, stay off the cigs, drink and caffeine. Hard, I know, but very vital.
The tip about gravity is right – we were advised by our consultant to ‘raise my wife’s legs for at least 10 mins after intercourse’ – prompts quite a lot of awkward laughter, but hey, its worth it.
Also, make sure your partner is off the caffeine and booze too. Caffeine and alcohol affect a man’s sperm count quite significantly, especially alcohol. Our consultant advised me that drinking more than 3 pints in one session can reduce a male’s fertility by up to 95% for up to a month. Not many people know that, I certainly didn’t!
So, it’s not just about you, make sure your man is playing the game too!
hello.
There are many “methods” that a lot of women use when trying to conceive. If you aren’t sure if/when you ovulate, Ovulation Predictor Kits (OPKs) can be a useful tool. My doctor questioned me to start charting my cervival mucus and basal body temperature (BBT). You would need to buy a basal thermometer (I got mine from walmart for under ten dollars) and then just take your temperature at the same time every morning before you get out of bed. If you chart everyday, you will start to see a trend. Your temperature will go up slightly when you are ovulating.
We still cuddle and bond post-sex, we just do it in a way that allows us to better our chances for trying to conceive. I usually sit with my legs up for about 15 minutes.
Make sure you and your partner are eating healthy and trying to follow healthy lifestyles. If either of you smoke, drink, or participate in illegal recreation– now is the time to cut back/quit those things. Have your man avoid polyester underwear, and things like hottubs and saunas— these things can deplete sperm. You should go ahead and start taking prenatal vitamins. Are you using any types of lubes? Many studies found that using lubricants or saliva can really hurt the sperm and prevent it from being able to have the mobility to reach the egg. Some fertility-friendly lubes would be ConceivePlus and Pre-Seed. We use pre-seed, and both really like it.
It is vital to note that if you have sex on the days leading up to ovulation, the sperm can live inside you, and then will already be up there waiting for the egg to fertilize. My doctor told us to have sex (starting around day 6 or 7) every other day. This way there is always sperm ready up there, and your man also has a day to let his sperm supply replenish. She did say that on the prime ovulation days (such as day 14 & 15) to have sex on both of those days. After sex my hubby and I lay together, side by side, with my legs up on the wall. A lot of times he will place his legs up on the wall too, so that I don’t feel so silly!
I really hope that this helped you in some way– — and excellent luck! Delight in this journey; It can be long and stressful, but it will all pay off.
Healthy eating is the most vital and you should start taking folic acid supplements now if you havent already started. I know that people say to lie still for a couple of mins, and I have even heard that you should place your legs up, but I have been pregnant 3 times and none of the conceptions involved putting my legs up or lying still for a set amount of time.
As hard as it may sound, the golden rule is simply not to stress about as it will happen, just be patient.
Excellent luck
